220Ω 1/4W metal-film resistor, ±1% tolerance — pack of 10.

  • Low-noise metal film, 5-band colour code
  • Axial leads for breadboard / PCB use
  • Ideal for LED current limiting on 5V circuits
Description

220 Ohm Resistor (220Ω) 1/4W 1% Metal Film – Pack of 10

These 220Ω 1/4W metal-film resistors have a tight ±1% tolerance and are supplied as a pack of 10. Metal-film construction gives better stability and lower noise than carbon-film resistors, so the value stays accurate across temperature changes.

They are most commonly used for LED current limiting on 5V circuits, Arduino projects and signal lines. The axial through-hole leads fit standard breadboards, perfboards and PCBs with 0.1″ (2.54mm) spacing.

Features

  • Resistance: 220Ω with ±1% tolerance
  • Metal-film construction for low noise and good stability
  • 1/4W (0.25W) power rating
  • Axial through-hole leads — breadboard and PCB friendly
  • 5-band colour code for easy identification
  • Pack of 10 pieces

Specifications

  • Resistance: 220Ω
  • Tolerance: ±1%
  • Power rating: 1/4W (0.25W)
  • Type: Metal film
  • Temperature coefficient: ±100 ppm/°C
  • Colour code (5-band): Red – Red – Black – Black – Brown
  • Mounting: Through-hole, axial leads
  • Pack size: 10 pieces

Quick Calculation

  • With a 5V supply and a red LED (≈2V), a 220Ω resistor gives about 14 mA — bright but safe for a standard 5mm LED.
  • Formula: R = (Supply voltage − LED forward voltage) ÷ desired current.
  • Keep power below 0.25W: P = I² × R.

Applications

  • LED current limiting on 5V Arduino / ESP circuits
  • Seven-segment display segment resistors
  • Series protection on GPIO lines
  • Beginner electronics kits and breadboard projects

Package Includes

  • 10 x 220Ω 1/4W 1% metal-film resistors

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I identify a 220Ω resistor by colour code?
These are 5-band 1% resistors. The bands read Red – Red – Black – Black – Brown (the last brown band means ±1% tolerance).

What is the difference between metal-film and carbon-film resistors?
Metal-film resistors have tighter tolerance (±1% vs ±5%), lower noise and better temperature stability. They work as a drop-in replacement anywhere a carbon-film resistor is used.

Can I use a 1/4W resistor with Arduino or ESP32?
Yes. In typical 3.3V and 5V microcontroller circuits the power dissipated is far below 0.25W.

Do you sell other resistor values?
Yes — we stock 220Ω, 330Ω, 1kΩ and 10kΩ packs. Contact us for bulk quantities or other values.
