The Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3 is the latest official camera from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, succeeding the Camera Module 2 after nearly 7 years. Built around the Sony IMX708 12-megapixel back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor, it brings Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), HDR mode, and improved low-light sensitivity — making it the most capable mainstream Raspberry Pi camera yet.
This is the Standard variant with a 76° diagonal viewing angle, designed for normal daylight photography and video. It is fully supported by Raspberry Pi’s official Picamera2 Python library, giving you precise programmatic control over focus, exposure, white balance, and HDR.

The Standard has a 76° diagonal field of view, suitable for general photography and close-range subjects. The Wide has a 120° FOV, ideal for landscapes, security cameras, and wide-area monitoring.
Q: What is the difference between the Standard and NoIR variants?
The Standard variant has an IR cut filter, so it captures natural-looking colours in daylight. The NoIR variant has no IR filter, allowing it to capture near-infrared light — useful for night vision applications when paired with an IR illuminator.
Q: Is it compatible with all Raspberry Pi models?
Yes, it works with all models from Pi 1 to Pi 5 that have a CSI camera port. Raspberry Pi Zero and Zero W require a separate shorter ribbon cable (not included) due to their smaller CSI connector.

It supports up to 2304×1296 at 56fps in binning mode and up to 4608×2592 for full-resolution stills. True 4K (3840×2160) video is not supported, but 1080p video at up to 50fps is achievable.
