Description
MAX98357 I2S 3W Class D Audio Amplifier Module
The MAX98357 takes I2S digital audio directly from your microcontroller and drives a speaker with a built-in 3W Class D amplifier — no separate DAC required. It decodes the I2S stream and amplifies it on one small board, making it a favourite for adding sound to ESP32, Raspberry Pi and Arduino projects.
Features
- I2S digital input with built-in DAC + 3W Class D amplifier
- Up to 3.2W output into a 4Ω speaker (at 5V)
- No MCLK required — simple 3-wire I2S (BCLK, LRC, DIN)
- Supports 8kHz to 96kHz sample rates
- Selectable gain: 3, 6, 9, 12 or 15 dB
- Drives a mono speaker directly
- Wide 2.5V–5.5V supply (works at 3.3V or 5V)
- High-efficiency Class D — runs cool, great for battery projects
